The agricultural environment

Simple but surprising is how to characterise this area in a few words.
Cereals (soft wheat, barley, maize) make up the bulk of arable production. Oilseeds have take a significant share; the Cher ranks third among rapeseed-producing departments.

Together, the variety of fields forms a patchwork of green and bright yellow, interrupted only here and there by a handful of farms and handkerchief-sized villages. It is a romantic landscape

The art of good food and drink is also well mastered here! The Cher is a region that counts five “appellations”: five famous wine regions that, together with the vineyards of the Giennois, form the “Route des Vignobles du Couer de France”, a 170 km route that leads past some 300 wine producers. The wine regions of the Cher produce delicious wines. 80% of the production consists of white wines, both dry and fruity, made exclusively from Sauvignon grapes. But the red and rosé wines, obtained from blue Pinot grapes as in Burgundy, are also worth the try. Viticulture takes place on the southern slopes and plateaus along the Loire, the Cher and its tributaries.
