If you like a good glass of wine, you’ve come to the right place! Gîte le Corbier is indeed a stone’s throw from the famous wine regions of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire.
Lovers of fresh, dry, white wines will know Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé as good quality sauvignon blanc wines. These wines are well known and loved worldwide. White Sancerre actually gave the sauvignon blanc its fame. This ‘crispy’ white wine became hugely popular in Paris in the 1970s, after that, the number of international fans grew rapidly. So quickly even that the success of Sancerre led to a fourfold increase in the planting of sauvignon blanc vines in 50 years.
They are dry and fresh white wines, always made exclusively from sauvignon-blanc. With the nice typical fruitiness and acidity of citrus and green apple, often combined with a certain florality and green notes (freshly cut grass, boxwood) that have made the region famous. They are excellent as an aperitif or Kir d’aperitif and marrie well with fish, seafood, salads and, of course, the delicious goat cheese from Chavignol. Great wines for a lovely sunny day, in other words!
The AOC (l’appellation d’origine contrôlée) dates back from 1936 and at that time only applied to white Sauvignon Blanc. Since 1959, the AOC has also applied to red and rosé wines made from the Pinot Noir grape, but our preference is definitely for white wine. The Pouilly-fumé has a hint of green in its otherwise yellow colour. Its powerful perfume has a spicy touch. In the fruity, dry taste, one thinks one can taste something of smoke, hence the name Fumé.
